Meet the Prof Night and Intramurals

Hey Everyone,

I know you all must be busy studying for midterms so I'll keep it brief.

1) Next week, the MBSA will hosting its 4th annual Meet The Prof Night!!!

This is a great opportunity for you to come out and discover some of the vast research that happens on UofA campus. This year we have Profs from Biosci, Cell Biology, Medical Microbiology and Infection, Medical Genetics and the Cross Cancer attending! So if your looking for Biol 299, 39X or 49X research projects, summer jobs or graduate studies you won't want to miss this night!

Also, not only will there be professors there, but there will also be Pizza and refreshments!!
To ensure that we order enough pizza for all, we ask that you please RSVP by replying to this email. The details for the night are below

WHEN: Tues, Oct 18th @ 5pm
WHERE: Biosci/CCIS foyer
RSVP: For free pizza email us at mbsa@ualberta.ca and tell us you're coming.

2) Our amazing Alex Evans (VP Events) also has a quick anoucement for everyone.

The BCSA (Biochemistry Students' Association) is putting together a co-ed intramural volleyball team, and they would like to know if we have anyone from our student group who would like to play on the team. There is room for about 6 people, so let us know if you'd like to come out and play some recreational volleyball! Cost per player will only be about $5 per game, and it starts on October 17th. The name of the team is "Lab Rats", which is fitting for a hybrid MBSA/BCSA volleyball team. Come play for the nerdiest rec volleyball team ever!

That's all for now, good luck on exams everyone :)

Welcome To A New School Year!!!

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a good summer, minus the fact that it rained all the time, and that you're all back and re-energized for a new school year.
This coming week (Sep 19 - 23) the MBSA is kicking things off with its annual BioSci locker sale, membership sign up and bake sale. That's right kids, it's a trifecta of awesome this week. Here's a breakdown of the details.

Location: We will have a booth setup on the main floor in the large entrance way that connects CCIS to BioSci. If you're still not sure where this is, basically find the Science Student office in 1-001 of CCIS and walk north towards BioSci and you will run right into us as you pass through the entrance way.
Time: Monday Sep 19 to Friday Sep 23 from approx 9am to 2pm each day. In the event you don't see us there, it means were in classes, so check back an hour or two later and we should be back.

Membership sign up: We will be signing up new members to the MBSA for the low low price of $5 a membership. This gives you access to all sorts of perks (movie / game nights, student / staff networking events, study groups, prize draws, cheaper MBSA T-shirts.) What's that cheap T-shirts you say? Yep as were signing up new members we will also be selling MBSA "Model Organism" T-shirts, you can check out a mock up here http://imgur.com/nLT3U, these awesome shirts are $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Wow what a deal! $20 for a cool T-shirt and a MBSA membership, that's worth bragging about.

Locker Sale: Running at the same time we will be selling locker rentals for BioSci for only $10 for the school year. The lockers are located throughout the 3rd floor of BioSci in center wing and on the 2nd floor of BioSci in the Microbiology wing, right next to the Micro 265 Lab room. If you're taking Micro 265 this year, what a great chance to have a locker to store all your stuff and lab coat in right outside your lab room.

Bake Sale: Also at our booth this week (only on Tuesday Sep 20 and Wed Sep 21) we will be having a bake sale with all sorts of great goodies. It will be be pay what you want, so even if you only have some change. We'll be glade to accept it so that you have a great snack to keep your energy going between classes. See, that's how much the MBSA loves you :)

One last thing to mention is that on Tuesday Sep 27 from 4-6pm. We will be hosting the MBSA annual meet and great for all members in the Athabasca hall Heritage room (tentative location). We will encourage all our new and existing members to come out, meet each other, chat, mingle, and eat some free pizza. If anything at least come for the free food :).

Have a great week everyone,
~MBSA
